Groupstorm Guide

Master the art of making faster, better decisions by working alone together.

Overview

Groupstorm is a decision-making framework designed to replace traditional group brainstorming with a more efficient 'working alone together' approach. It eliminates the 'loudest voice' bias and ensures every team member's ideas are heard and evaluated fairly.

1. Ask the Question

The process begins with a clear, specific question. The Decider (session owner) defines the goal and provides any necessary background context. A well-framed question is crucial for a successful session.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Be specific: Instead of 'How to grow?', try 'How can we increase Q2 signups by 10%?'
  • Provide context: Use the background field to share relevant data or constraints.

2. Silent Note Phase

This is the 'working alone together' part. Participants generate ideas individually and in silence. Each person writes multiple answers as private drafts. Silence prevents influence and groupthink.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Quantity over quality: Write as many ideas as possible during this time.
  • Stay silent: No talking or sharing until the next phase.
  • Promote to Board: Once you're happy with a draft, promote it to the shared board to make it visible to the team.

3. Silent Vote Phase

All ideas are revealed anonymously on the board. Participants review the notes in silence and place votes (usually 2-3) on their favorite ideas. This identifies the team's collective preferences without the need for debate.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Vote on merit: Don't worry about who wrote the idea.
  • Multi-voting: If you really love one idea, you can put multiple votes on it.

4. Debate (Optional)

The silence ends. The team briefly discusses the top-voted ideas. This is not about reaching consensus, but about ensuring the Decider understands the reasoning behind the team's favorites.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Keep it brief: Focus on the 'why' behind the top choices.
  • Avoid sales pitches: The goal is information, not persuasion.

5. Final Decision

The Decider makes the final choice. They can choose to follow the group's votes or pick a different option based on the information gathered. The process ends with a clear, actionable outcome.

Pro Tips for Success

  • The Decider has the final say: This prevents stalemates.
  • Explain the choice: Briefly share the reasoning for the final decision.

Managing Your Team

Groupstorm is built for collaboration. Use the 'Team Members' section on your dashboard to invite colleagues to your organization.

Pro Tips for Success

  • Invite by email: Colleagues will receive a link to join your organization.
  • Multi-tenant: Each organization has its own private workspace and sessions.
